The Trike-a-Thon and Open House on June 10th was a great success. We enjoyed watching the children with their trikes, bikes, wagons and scooters race through the track in our BMS parking lot with pit stops along the way. The children enjoyed navigating the Trike Wash to make their bikes and trikes sparkle as well as the repair shop to fix those lose nuts and bolts. Once their equipment was ready to go, they hopped on the track again to the gas station or the lemonade stand to fuel up for more. The track was equipped with a hospital for any bumps along the way and our very own BMS teacher, Ms. Ashley, who controlled our traffic light to slow down any speedy traffic violators and Mr. Josh, who enforced towing of any abandoned vehicles.
While the children enjoyed the Trike-a-Thon, new families were able to visit and explore the BMS school, the Montessori methods and its classrooms. The experience of the community and our school coming together for this event showed the Montessori values that are instilled in our children here at BMS. Children of all ages worked together fixing their trikes, helping each other if they fell down and even sharing their bikes between each other.
“There is a great sense of community within the Montessori classroom, where children of differing ages work together in an atmosphere of cooperation rather than competitiveness. There is respect for the environment and for the individuals within it, which comes through experience of freedom within the community.” ~Dr. Maria Montessori
